Down by the Lazy River

Well, not so lazy. The water is rushing by, lots of it. This was the first day of Spring; last day of March Break for the kids. We decided to spend the afternoon out, just having fun and enjoying the beautiful sunny day. After riding scooters at the playground we stopped at the Lahave River where it passes through the town of Bridgewater. I love Spring. Everything is waking up finally from the long cold winter. Here are our first sightings of this majestic river through the trees along the bank:

Here we got to see the last of the ice hanging onto small plants. It was quite pretty.

This river is moving very fast as all the snow and ice melted and brought the water level way up.

There is a walking trail, also for ATV's, etc. that goes over the river. It used to be a railway bridge. The local trail association has done a wonderful job maintaining this for everyones' enjoyment.

The last two photos are on the bridge. There are even picnic tables!

The view from here, in both directions is quite spectacular!

The town of Bridgewater can be seen in the distance. The hardwood trees don't have their leaves yet, but they make a nice contrast with the evergreens and the blue water.

This is the trail leading off the bridge.

We ventured further down the river to the centre of Bridgewater. That is the Bridgewater Mall to the right - great when you need a little shopping therapy.

Boats in the distance tied up to the Government Wharf.

One of the two bridges that cross the Lahave River at Bridgewater.

These last three photos are taken from under one of two parkades on Main Street. Here are the stairs leading down to the wharf-like area by the river. BT and JT wanted to see what was down there.

I hope you enjoy these photos of our afternoon out. I'm happy to have to opportunity to share them with you.
